Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The name Bwindi is derived from Runyakitara word ‘Mubwindi’ which means ‘’a place full of darkness’’. Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest is located in south western part of Uganda and is home of many families of mountain gorillas and hence the best place in Uganda to track mountain gorillas.

The forest is also a bird-watcher’s paradise with 350 species recorded, including many Albertine Rift endemics, the park is 330 square kilometers and altitude averaging 1160-2607 m above sea level, on the edge of the Albertine Rift and western branch of East African Rift and hence, Bwindi Impenetrable National park is UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is the most biologically diverse place on Earth, it is near the border with Democratic Republic of Congo and 25 km to north of virunga mountains.
